In order to update knowledge, improve capacity and apply new technologies in the field of comprehensive treatment of cleft lip and palate for medical staff, on November 13, the Central Odonto-Stomatology Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City held the 3rd International Conference on Comprehensive Treatment of Cleft Lip – Cleft palate and craniofacial malformations.

The conference was attended by more than 20 leading international and Vietnamese experts in the field of cleft lip and palate treatment. With nearly 30 papers in the fields of plastic surgery, orthodontics, speech therapy, nutrition, care… the conference attracted more than 500 domestic and foreign delegates to attend. attend.

Cleft lip and palate is a common deformity in Asian countries. According to statistics, in Vietnam for every 500 babies born, there will be 1 case of cleft lip and palate. However, the treatment process in the past focused only on surgery to close the cleft lip and palate, now patients are treated according to a comprehensive process from infancy to adulthood.

Ths.BSCK2 Le Trung Chanh, Director of the Central Odonto-Stomatology Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City, said: “This is the first time Asia has implemented simulation training using 3D techniques. The simulation program provides the background. Preclinical platform to practice surgical procedures to accumulate experience and competence before performing on real patients, ensuring safety, efficiency and best quality of treatment.

Vietnam is the first country in Asia to organize training according to this simulation program and receive technical transfer for trainees from countries in the region such as Laos, Myanmar…”

In order to create favorable conditions in the treatment process for patients in the Central region, the Center is currently transferring the technical process of comprehensive treatment of cleft lip and palate to the Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital of Quang Ngai province.
